November/December Happenings

Some random pictures worth sharing:

I love a good guest reader...  Here's Bud's annual Christmas Crocodile.  Not so classical - seriously cute!

A nature study of a poinsettia.  My students studied it, drew it, mixed watercolors, and painted from the mixed colors...quite impressive!  I've tried before - it's hard!  I thought I would share some:

Mike's french toast at a favorite breakfast spot in Old Mandeville.  It's about 5 inches high.

Our 3-ft. shrimp poboy in New Orleans.  Not the *best* I've had, but definitely the most fun.  We shared it with my dad, were STUFFED, and had tons left over.

a new perspective

I was sitting next to my little Preston during yesterday's Christmas service rehearsal and someone was wanting to trade books with him.  He had Eragon - from the library.  He said very matter-of-factly, "I can't trade this book because I'm working on it."  Then, he turned back to keep reading and I said, "Um, Preston...your book is upside-down."  And he said (imagine a little voice, very serious), "Yes.  I like to read upside down.  Makes it more challenging.  Then, you can pick out all the words that stick out."  Then, he proceeded to show me some of those words that "stuck out."

Err Jordan?

I'm in the library at school.  My students are happily reading library books and I'm actually finished (for the moment) grading papers - my usual library activity.  One of my little ones just brought me a magazine with a picture of Michael Jordan dunking, his feet above the heads of the fans.  He asked me if that was cheating.  :)  When I told him it wasn't, and that it was really how high he could jump, he said, "Oh.  Then it would only be cheating if he jumped off of another player's shoulders."  Isn't that a great mental picture?  :)
