A little backstory.
This is so unconventional and yet so very important. You may wonder why Mike was in Texas in the first place.
Mike is the middle of three boys, one a year older and one a year younger. Prior to the start of the school year, his family moved within their city in Virginia, but far enough that they would be starting in a new high school. Their uncle, Dave, is essentially their "big brother," being ten years older than Mike. During the same period of time that Mike's family moved across town, Dave broke the news to the boys that he and his new wife, Christy, would be moving to Texas for him to begin seminary.
Within weeks of moving to Texas, Dave and Christy had the strangest compulsion. They went to Julie, Mike's mother, and told her that they felt the need to offer this most unconventional idea: If any of the boys wanted to join them on their trek to Texas, they could live with Dave and Christy and start at a new high school there rather than in Virginia. So Julie, though I can't imagine how difficult it must have been, agreed that Mike should go, while the other two stayed.
Several weeks after moving to Texas, Dave became an intern in the Travis youth group. And that's how Mike came to be introduced in my youth choir rehearsal.

I love reading these! I will always remember going to our pledge dance with our 2 high school sweet hearts. :) I did have to tell you that I LOVE the book you're reading. Have you read other Deanne Gist books? They are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love reading this too! :) Thanks baby for writing this down!
ReplyDeleteDon't you love looking back and seeing how providential your whole love story was, there in the middle of the whole growing up story? He knows what He's doing even when we are truly and ridiculously without understanding.
